Moby, Dave Hill and… ME?! UCB Theater – 9/11/2010

I was asked, kind of by mistake, to take part in a panel discussion about music for a live show called Break Up Your Band at the UCB Theater on September 11th, 2010. The show’s wonderful, gracious, and charismatic host John Frusciante (not THAT John Frusciante, dude) approached me via email and asked if I’d like to represent the epic brooklynvegan.com on the show alongside Moby, Dave Hill and others. At the time, I was too giddy and pants-shittingly nervous to recognize that he thought I actually ran BV and that his asking me was kind of a mistake. Shortly after saying yes, like, seconds later, I wrote him back and told him that I am not the brains behind BV, but that I am merely a flakey, dare I say veteran, contributor to the site and that I didn’t run the show. I wondered if that would cause him to rescind his invite. However, he unequivocally told me that it was absolutely not a problem and that he was still stoked to have me on.

My fear of public speaking is paralysis inducing. I have no problem playing drums with a band in front of a massive crowd, but that’s only because the band and the kit serve as camouflage. Speaking though? I would consider walking down a busy city street butt naked less terrifying. So for days I worried about this event. It was something I could not pass up, but on the other hand it was something to be dreaded. Finally the night of the show reared it’s ugly head and I made my way to the UCB Theater. First thing I did when I got there was go to the bathroom and, doesn’t it figure, my hat fell into the urinal… my hat… the mask to shield the audience from my shiny, bald, massive head. Undaunted I rinsed it with hot water and planned on wearing it for the show come hell or high water. Backstage, I soon met up with Moby, Dave Hill, and John Frusciante. The 10 minutes we hung out backstage was quite enough to help quell the tide of fear that was on the verge of sweeping my terrified body out of the green room, up the stairs, and back out to 26th street and ultimately home. In no time, it was time to head out and get that shit over with.

Vintage Hardcore, Ska, Rock & Punk Fliers and Setlists Project Underway

Carcass, Napalm Death, Musical Destruction

Ladies and gentlemen, my scan project is back in action. Thanks to the kind help of a curator at my work, I have been temporarily given a scanner with which to proceed scanning the fuck out of my retardedly large collection of fliers (flyers), setlists, and assorted ephemera. So far, I’ve got two sets going on flickr; a fliers set and a setlist/itinerary set. Look for TheBergstrom to grow daily! Let the early to mid 90s nostalgia trip begin! Again!
